During the Communist government, official religions were forbidden, but in the last few years religious worship is once again permitted. The majority of Russian people who are religious follow the Russian Orthodox Church but there are other smaller Christian groups in Russia as well. There are Muslims and Jews but in Russia Jewish people are considered an ethnic group.
