Summer Reading Requirements for students entering or repeating 9th gradeDear Parent/Guardian/Student: Cecil County Public Schools fosters an interest in and a habit of reading. We are continuing a summer reading requirement for all incoming ninth graders. We want to encourage students to become lifelong readers and to improve their reading through reading. For these reasons, we require students to read one book this summer, but encourage them to read more. Below you will find a list of book titles and a copy of a Reading Log. An attempt has been made to include titles that will appeal to students' varying interests and reading levels. A reading grade level and lexile level are listed for each book. Simply put, the lower the lexile level, the easier the book will be to read. Each student is expected to read a book and complete a Reading Log during the summer break. He/she will submit the Reading Log the first day of the 2009-2010 school year. The log will be evaluated by an English teacher and may become a focal point for class discussions and a composition in class. Parents are asked to make sure the book is read and the Reading Log is completed and turned in the first day of school. We hope that you will encourage your child to read books and complete the Reading Log. We also invite you to share this reading experience with your child by reading and discussing the book with him/her. Enjoy! Note: Students enrolled in the Honors level will be assigned specific titles.
