I wrote a letter
To a soldier far away
About myself and what
Happened during my day
About a high school competition
Hitting notes that are right
Twirling, jumping, marching
All throughout the night
About eating dinner with family
Shopping with a friend
Things he'll never do until
The war comes to an end
I stuck on a stamp
And put it in the mail
Hoped for a response
With my soldier's tale
Then life got so busy
I had so much to do
I forgot about the letter
To the soldier I never knew
But then I remember
One day in July
About the letter
And the days that went by
Never knew him
Or even his name
But I started to cry
Because the response never came
Maybe he just didn't have time
So he put down the letter and sighed
But the thing that made the tears come down
Was that he might have died
