Discover and identify shape as a 2-dimensional element of art. | Define shape and show examples of 2-D shapes in the classroom and the environment. Have students identify the shapes they see in a variety of artworks from different artists, cultures and times in history. (M) Look at books by Lois Ehlert where shapes and colors are used to create objects, animals, and people in a variety of ways. Then have the students manipulate shapes with blocks. (ID) Students can use body movements to create shapes and letters. Groups of students can create larger shapes or words. |
