The student will demonstrate understanding of the visual arts as a basic aspect of history and human experiences.

2.A The student will determine ways in which works of art express ideas about self, people, places, and events.

II.A.1 The student will discover how images and forms were used by the people who created them by studying selected artworks of different times and places.

2.B The student will classify reasons why people create and use art by studying artworks and other sources of information.

Discover and identify form as a work of art. Teacher defines form as a 3-D object that has many sides. Provide real examples like a sphere, cube, cylinder, pyramid and others. Have students identify similar forms in the environment. (E)

Provide examples of sculptures or prints illustrating sculptures. Identify the forms that they see. (M)

Students can discover form using a wide variety of sculpture media. Allow the students to experiment with clay, sponges, cardboard and other found objects. Have the students create different types of buildings and compare to photographs of architectural structures. (ID)

Using a safe bubble medium, have students blow bubbles outside and watch the spheres form in a variety of sizes and colors of the spectrum.
