Colors can be mixed to create secondary and intermediate colors. Give the students red, yellow, and blue tempera paint and have the students paint vertical stripes of red then yellow - mixing to make orange… continue through yellow, green, blue, and purple on 9" x 18" paper. Use the painted paper as the body for a dragon for Chinese New Year. (M, ID)

Display work by various artists. Have the students compare the artists use of color - determine whether or not they mixed their own colors.

Have the students create a scratch board by using red, yellow, and blue crayons to mix and create secondary colors. Then color over with black crayons. Scratch through the black to create fish shapes - with the texture of scales. Cut out the fish and create a mobile - like fish hanging from a pole.
