Form can be natural or man-made. | Observe visual forms around art room and/or outside to discuss man-made natural objects. Display art prints that have both types of forms and have the same discussion. Have students create a group sculpture using any of the following materials: sponges, clay, wood, wire, cloth, foil, paper, and found objects. The subject matter can be non-representational or abstract. (MI, E) Tissue Paper Flowers - Observe pictures of flowers, artwork of flowers, and real flowers in a vase. Have students create 3-D flowers from folding tissue paper into a fan or accordion fold, fasten with a long green pipe cleaner, and add green felt leaves. Flowers can be tied with a bow or if time permits a vase can be made from a milk-carton or toilet paper tube. (E, ID) Pine cone Turkeys - Collect pine cones through a school newsletter. Students will decorate turkeys using scrap felt and cloth to create the different parts of a turkey beak, gobble, eyes, comb, wings, tail, feet, and then add extras: bows, hats, vests, skirts. (E) Robots - Discuss robots and show pictures of different types. Brainstorm found materials that can be used in the creation of robots. Post a list in the school-wide newsletter. Have children create their own model robot, the armature can be a toilet paper tube or milk-carton. Discuss recycling materials and Earth Day. (E) |
