Introduction:  

Have you ever thought about dogs helping you in your everyday life?  Do you feel that your relationship with your dog is an important one? Through this activity, you are going to learn how dogs help people to do many tasks and how people and dogs develop important relationships where they depend upon each other.

 

 

Task:

You are going to read two stories in which dogs do extraordinary things to help their owners.  You will also read some essays written by other students about their dog and how they did something extraordinary. You will then write a brief example of an experience you have had with your dog, or a dog you know.

 

 

Process:

3.    Click on Twany to read the second article, after reading close the window to get back to this page.

4.    Fill out the chart answering the questions provided.

5.    Then read the essays written by various fifth graders from across the United States about their extraordinary dog by clicking here.

6.    Complete the rest of the worksheet about your extraordinary experience with your dog or a dog you know.

7.    Click here to make a certificate to recognize your dog's achievements.

8.    Turn in your worksheet to your teacher.

Evaluation:

       Your teacher will evaluate you to see how well you identify and explain the informational text, how well you note details in the text, and how well you compare and contrast two sets of information.
