Introduction:  

What do you think it would be like to be an animal that is endangered? You might be only one of a few of your species remaining.  How would you protect yourself?  Could humans help? Through this activity, you are going to think about how knowledge creates an appreciation of and respect for living things.



Task:

Fifth grade students in Sleepy Hollow, NY researched endangered animals and wrote stories about them.  You are going to evaluate how well they told the animal's story.



Process:Read all directions before clicking links.

1.     Click on the following link to the stories: Endangered Animal Stories

2.    Choose an animal and click on its name.

3.    Take out a Go Wild Worksheet.  Fill in your name and the title of the animal story that you chose.

4.    Read the story.

5.    Complete the top portion of the worksheet asking for the point of view, the main idea or problem, the threat to the animal, and if and how the threat was resolved.

6.    To evaluate how well the author presented the animal, click on the following link to read more facts. Choose the animal that was in the story. Endangered Animal Resources

7.    Complete the second part of your task. Think and write about how well the author presented the animal's situation based on the background information you read.

8.    Turn in your worksheet to your teacher.
