Introduction:
How can heroes have a postive influence on society? This activity will help you determine the traits and actions of everyday people who go above and beyond normal expectations to help others and make contributions to society.
Task:
You are in charge of introducing a person who is being honored at a hero celebration. In this introduction, you will provide background information about your hero and include traits which made your hero a postive influence on society.
Process: Read all directions before clicking links.

Step1
Go to the My Hero website http://www.myhero.com/myhero/
Click on the word Directory to see catagories of heroes. Chose child, community, or sports catagories to view various heroes. Your teacher may also have posted a list of choices for you. Browse and read through the choices. Select the person who interests you. Read the text and use the graphic organizer to take notes.

Step 2
Using your organizer compose your introduction. Listed below are sample starters you may use to begin your written introduction.

Today we are honoring........
We are fortunate to have ________ here with us today........

Step 3
After writing your introduction, follow your teacher's directions for turning in assignments.

Step 4
Oral presentation of your introduction speech.


Evaluation:
You will be evaluated on your oral introduction by your teacher and your peers. This evaluation will be based on the content, enthusiasm, and volume of your presentation.
