Teacher Directions for Amazing
Insects Research
Objective: Students will research insects and use
the writing process to develop a class alphabet book on insects, titled
ÒAmazing InsectsÓ.
Activities:
1. Students will
use the internet and other resources to find insect common names that begin
with each letter of the alphabet. Generate a class list of insects.
2. Each student
will select an insect from the alphabetical list to research.
3. Students will
use the internet and other resources to research their insect. They will use
the Amazing Insects Note Organizer to record their information.
4. Using their
notes, students will write to inform. They will generate a paragraph about
their insect, which includes a topic sentence, details and an ending sentence.
5. Students will
draw a picture of their insect. The picture will need to have a large letter of
the alphabet along with the name of the insect at the top of the page.
6. The studentsÕ
paragraphs and pictures will be compiled into a class alphabet book, titled
ÒAmazing InsectsÓ.
