In this activity, you are going to locate the Scituate Lighthouse in Massachusetts, view pictures of the lighthouse, and read about the history of the lighthouse. Then you will make a timeline of the Lighthouse’s life and draw pictures of the lighthouse.

Task #1

1. Access the following website:

http://www.lighthousefriends.com/ma.html

2. Click on the spot for Newburyport, Gloucester, Salem and Boston Area Lighthouses to see the location of Scituate Lighthouse in Massachusetts.

3. Then click on the word Scituate and you will see a picture of the lighthouse and the keeper’s house.

Task #2

1. Access the following website:

http://www.lighthouse.cc/scituate/index.html

This site provides a history of the Scituate Lighthouse as well as many photos of the lighthouse throughout the years.

2. Read about the history of the lighthouse.

3. Make a timeline of the main events in the Lighthouse’s life.

4. Draw a picture of the lighthouse at whatever age you choose. Label the picture with the year that your picture represents.

5. On the back of your picture, answer the following question: Does the real lighthouse look the way you imagined it would look from the description in the book? Explain your answer.
